Local rūnanga (council tribe) Ngāti Waewae are the owners of Arahura Holding Ltd.
Arahura Holding Ltd own the Punangairi Visitor Centre.
Ngāti Waewae are mana whenua (local indigenous māori tribal group)
for Te Tai o Poutini (the West Coast)
from Kahurangi Point in the north, to the north bank of the Hokitika River.
We also have a shared takiwā (region) with Ngāti Mahaki (Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio)in the area between the south bank of the Hokitika Riverand the north bank of the Pouerua River.
